Did GM make RWD / 2WD versions?

As in RWD only? I think that was how the majority were sold.

Excellent question: Wiki says “yes,” as of the Summer of 1990. (I thought of consulting Wiki after I was lazy and consulted y’all.

Note the difference between S10 and S10 Blazer.

Yes they most certainly did. My brother had a 1986 Jimmy RWD 2 door with a 2.8L V6 and a 5spd stick.

OH YEAH

Yeah, I’m aware. The S-10 Blazer was the 80s SUV version of the S-10 pickup but “blazer” wasn’t the standalone model until the 90s, correct? Before that, you had the K-5 blazer which was based on the full size C/K pickup.
And yeah, base model was RWD only.

Yep, they sure did.
Easiest way to tell is to look at the wheels. 2WD ones have a very deep dish to the wheel:
4WD ones are more flush:

I’m thinking 4.3L, 5Sp and aftermarket turbo. And 4 doors...

AWD even.

Yes. Used to work in a dealership in the 90s.

Yes. Easiest tell is when you see one look at the wheels. 4x4 wheels are positive offset (like just about everything nowadays), while the RWD wheels will have a center (or zero) offset.

I had an ‘84 for my first car in the late 90’s. Was horrible piece of shit and most definitely RWD. I abused that thing like crazy and blew the tranny going 75 down the freeway.

Some of the early ones, with the 2.8L V6 were pretty crappy.

Hey, that was a really helpful tip. Thanks!
